Rate Relief explained
Various rate reliefs exist but understanding them and if they should be applied to you is not always clear and easy to understand. Again we can look at this for you but the following information simply shows the different reliefs that are available:
Small Business Rate Multiplier
The level of rate multiplier that is applied to the rateable value in order to issue the rate demand can vary depending on the size of the rateable value and the location of the property. Is yours correct?
Small Business Rate Relief
In addition to the above, there is also the provision of further relief for ‘small business’. This is a tapered relief that is applied based on the level of rateable value.
Empty Rate Relief
If you have an empty property with a rateable value under £2,600, then no rates are payable. For larger propertied, you are exempt from paying business rates on empty commercial property for a period of 3 months. If your building is industrial, a further 3 months relief is applicable. However, there are steps which can be taken to secure longer term empty rate relief. We can advise you on this matter.
